Filing deadline extended

Weyauwega council member not running

Edwards

The deadline to file nomination papers to be a candidate this spring in Weyauwega’s Aldermanic District 3 is now 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6.

The city had to extend the deadine after Johanna Edwards, the incumbent in that district, did not file Non-Candidacy papers or turn in Declaration of Candidacy papers by either deadline.

Those wanting to be candidates in the April 4 election needed to file nomination papers by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Incumbents not planning to seek re-election had to file a Notifcation of Non-candidacy by 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23.

Since Edwards did neither, the filing deadline for that district is extended.

On Nov. 14, the common council appointed Edwards to represent Aldermanic District 3.

She is filling the remaining term of Mike Kempf, who resigned from the council in September.

Edwards formerly held the seat.

Mayor Jack Spierings and alderpersons Nick Gunderson and Keith Najdowski are also up for re-election next spring.

All three are seeking another term and are running unopposed.

Najdowski represents Aldermanic District 1, and Gunderson represents Aldermanic District 2.
