T-Birds split home games against Rosholt

Boys win, but girls come up short

Iola-Scandinavia’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams opened 2017 by hosting Rosholt Jan. 3.

The boys handed the Hornets a 53-49 loss, while the girls came out on the short end of a 37-27 score.

Rosholt took a 25-24 lead into the locker room at halftime behind Dylan Richter’s eight points, but the Thunderbirds outscored the visitors 29-24 in the second half.

Kenny Holz led the T-Birds with 19 points, while Bryce Huettner and Carter Kurki added nine and eight, respectively. Richter led the Hornets with 16 points, while Cade Bowker added 13 and Sawyer Fleming finished with 11.

Both teams had trouble scoring in the first half, as the Hornets led 11-8 at the break.

Rosholt went on to outscore the home team 26-19 in the second half.

Mia Wandtke led the T-Birds with eight points, eight rebounds and four steals. Erika Kisting added eight rebounds and four steals, while Kendall Johnson, Hannah Melum and Bryanna Kisting had five points each.

Rosholt’s Molly Andreae led all scorers with 15 points.

Both teams will return to Central Wisconsin 8 Conference play Tuesday, Jan. 10. The boys will host the Cardinals at 7:30 p.m., while the girls will head to Stevens Point for a 7 p.m. game.
