Mavis E. Siewert, age 84, of Readfield, died on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Trinity Terrace in New London.

She was born on October 24, 1932, in the Town of Dale, the daughter of the late Merritt and Irma(Rach)Griswold. She graduated from Hickory Grove School with perfect attendance, and in 1950 graduated from Washington High School. She then graduated from Ev. Deaconess School of Nursing in January 1954 as a Registered Nurse. Mavis loved nursing and practiced for 44 ½ years, working at Old Milwaukee Children’s Hospital, Wood VA Hospital and Wisconsin Veterans Home-King. She also did private duty nursing. Mavis had several nursing articles published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, The Journal of American Geriatric Society and the American Journal of Infection Control. She received a Commendation from the State of Wisconsin Veterans Affairs and was nominated for the Florence Nightingale award, and was employee of the month. On October 30, 1954, Mavis married Francis Lee Griswold and together they had four children, Timothy, Debra, James and Terry. Their marriage dissolved in 1968. On July 14, 1979, Mavis married her soulmate, LeVerne “Popeye” Siewert and together they celebrated 32 happy years together until he preceded her in death on October 2011. Mavis loved traveling, and saw all of the United States, except Hawaii, all of the Canadian provinces, Mexico, Sweden, Denmark, Russia, Estonia, Jamaica and England. Her favorites were Alaska and Hudson Bay with the polar bears. She loved dancing, playing cards, going to the casino, partying and having fun. Her best times were spent with family and her precious grandchildren and friends. She enjoyed Friday fish fry and lots of laughs with Sandy, Kathy and Loretta. Mavis lived by four mottoes, 1. One Day at a Time, 2. Live each day to the fullest, 3. Tomorrow’s another day, and 4. Live, Laugh, Love. Mavis enjoyed nature’s beauty, the clouds and sky, birds, turkeys and deer, landscapes and snowscapes, waterfalls and changing seasons. She loved the Packers through thick and thin.

Mavis is survived by her children, Timothy (Renee) Griswold, Debra Griswold, James (Corinne Dickey) Griswold and Terry Griswold; her grandchildren, Jessica Griswold, Jennifer Griswold, Erin McLaughlin, and Chad McLaughlin; a brother-in-law, Kendall Kempf; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Clint Griswold; her sisters, Barbara (Russell) Grunwald, Imogene (Newell) Rasmussen and Garneta Kempf.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, N985 County Rd. W, Readfield with Rev. Peter Kesting officiating. Burial is in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation was held on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home, and on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established.
