Facebook threats lead to arrest

Waupaca police placed all Waupaca schools on a lockout Monday morning after a student posted threatening comments on Facebook.

Shortly before 8:15 a.m. Monday, Waupaca County 911 received a Crime Stoppers tip that “someone threatened to shoot up a Waupaca school.”

The Waupaca Police Department immediately placed all Waupaca schools on a lockout, which requires all students to remain in the schools and prohibits all outsiders from entering the schools, other than law enforcement.

Waupaca police and Waupaca County deputies responded to all schools within the Waupaca School District.

Waupaca Crime Stoppers provided a name of a suspect who is a Waupaca High School student.

Records confirmed that the suspect was currently at the school and officers took him into custody for questioning.

Waupaca police have identified ths suspect as a 17-year-old male.

Upon questioning, the suspect admitted to posting threatening comments on Facebook.

Waupaca police will refer the boy to the district attorney’s office for charges of making terrorist threats.
