Felony OWI convict faces extradition

Altlman

A former Clintonville man who spent six years in Wisconsin prison faces extradition to Illinois.

Cook County has issued a fugitive warrant for the arrest of Gregory Altman, 51.

He is charged in Illinois with aggravated driving under the influence.

Altman, who is currently in custody in Waupaca County, has seven prior drunken driving convictions in Wisconsin.

In June 2006, Altman was convicted of a fifth and a sixth drunken driving offense in Waupaca County and sentenced to two years in prison and five years of extended supervision.

In December 2008, his extended supervision was revoked after another OWI arrest, and Altman was reconfined for one year.

In February 2010, Altman was convicted of a seventh drunken driving offense in Racine County and sentenced to three years in prison and four years of extended supervision.

Altman’s first incarceration occurred in August 1991 when he was convicted of battery to an officer in Marathon County and sentenced to 30 months in prison.

He is scheduled for an extradition review hearing in Waupaca County Circuit Court on Feb. 24.
