Voie, Roger Thomas

Roger Thomas Voie, age 85, of Stevens Point, formerly of Iola, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 17, 2017. He died peacefully in his sleep in his favorite recliner at home.

Roger was born in Iola, Wisconsin on January 8, 1932 to Selmer and Bernice Voie. Roger served in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman on the Red Cross Ship, USS Consolation during the Korean War. He graduated from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa and the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science in Milwauke. He married Virginia Isaacson and joined his father as an undertaker at the Voie Funeral Home. He and his brother, Eugene, later took over the family business and ran the Voie Furniture Store and the ambulance service. Roger and Virginia remained in Iola and raised their family of five children. Virginia passed away in 1979 at the age of 46. Roger then married Marjorie Isaacson in 1982 and moved to Stevens Point after his retirement. Marjorie passed away in 2006. Roger truly enjoyed life and spent much time with his family. He was active at his church, Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stevens Point where he served as an usher and participated in the Thursday morning prayer group. He volunteered at the Central County airport where he assisted with the Friday lunches. Roger was an avid hunter and especially enjoyed deer hunting season at his cabin in Norske with his sons and grandsons. He looked forward to family vacations and was especially thrilled to have all his children attend his Navy reunion in Norfolk Virginia in 2010. Roger, and his daughter Ellen, visited his Voie relatives and the family homestead in Arendal, Norway in 2013. He enjoyed woodworking and spent many hours crafting wood items in his garage.

He is survived by his children, Dr. Gerald (Dena) Voie, Council Bluffs, Iowa; Ellen Voie, Waupaca; Jeanne Voie Gersten, Seattle, Washington; Dale Voie, Iola; Rolf (Michelle) Voie, Iola and step-daughter, Pam (Ken) Isaacson McNenny, Sturgis, South Dakota. He is further survived by grandchildren, Isaac Pliska, Virginia (Andrew) Maus, Erik (Olivia) Voie, Lucas Voie, Niki Voie, Kaylissa Voie and Gabrielle Gersten, in addition to four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joanne Voie Hansen.
