I-S defeats Manawa

T-Birds get a first round bye

The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds finished out their regular season with a 65-58 victory over the Manawa Wolves in the Central Wisconsin Eight Conference Thursday.

The T-Birds started out the game strong, outscoring the Wolves 31-21 in the first half of the game.

Kenny Holz led the charge for Iola-Scandinavia, scoring 11 of his game-high 15 points during that period, while Ethan Hass led the Wolves with eight.

The Wolves were able to outscore I-S, 37-34 in the final period led by Ethan Wiesner with eight points, but Connor Kurki poured in 13 points of his own to secure the win for the T-Birds.

Topping the scoring for Manawa was Wiesner with 15, followed by Jeven Sachtjen with 13 and Hass with 12.

Leading the scoring for Iola-Scandinavia was Kurki with 19, followed by Holz with 15 and Bryce Huettner with 12.

Manawa will travel to Stevens Point on Feb. 28, to play the Pacelli Cardinals in the first round of WIAA Regional Basketball.

Iola-Scandinavia will have a bye for the first round, but will play the winner of the game between St Mary’s Catholic and Mishicot in Iola on March 3.
