DPI candidate to speak in New London

Lowell Holtz presents Tuesday

Dr. Lowell Holtz, candidate for state superintendent of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, will speak in New London Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m.

Holtz will be the featured speaker at a Wolf River Area Patriot Forum at the Washington Center in New London, 600 W. Washington St. Enter from the south side of the building off Dickinson Street.

The public is invited to watch Holtz speak. There will be a question and answer session following his presentation. Call Seth Cowan for more information at 920-968-5335.

Holtz is challenging incumbent Tony Evers for the job of State Superintendent of the DPI in the April 4 election. While the race is nonpartisan, Holtz has received more backing from conservative groups while Evers has more support from liberal groups.

The pair outperformed challenger John Humphries in the Feb. 21 superintendent primary to eliminate him from the race.

Holtz will now work to strengthen his support among a Wisconsin electorate that favored Evers over him 69 percent to 23 percent last week.

Holtz performed about the same locally in New London, Hortonville, Hortonia and Mukwa. However, he gathered closer to 40 percent of the votes in rural towns including Bear Creek, Maple Creek, Lebanon, Caledonia, Dale, Ellington, Liberty and Royalton.

Holtz has worked as a teacher, principal and superintendent in both private and public schools. He is an advocate of school choice.
