Bauer named top girls’ coach

Four Ice on all-conference team

It didn’t take long for Dan Bauer to make his presence known in the Great Northern Conference.

Bauer has been named the conference’s girls’ hockey coach of the year after leading the Waupaca Area Ice to a 9-14 record and a second-place finish in the conference standings in his first season.

Not only did the Ice have the coach of the year, the team also placed four players on the all-conference team: first-team unanimous selections junior defenseman Avrey Simonson and junior Markie Ash; second-team senior defenseman Katarina Otter-Giese; and honorable mention sophomore Anna Ryder.

First Team
Goalie: Erin Sparks*, senior, Lakeland/Tomahawk/Mercer.

Defenseman: Avrey Simonson*, junior, Waupaca; Anna Hartwig, senior, Northland Pines.

Forward: Amanda Sergent*, senior, Northland Pines; Markie Ash*, junior, Waupaca; Margaret Wohlleber, sophomore, Lakeland/Tomahawk/Mercer.

Second Team
Goalie: Shea Petersen, senior, Northern Edge.

Defenseman: Kailey Godfrey, junior, Lakeland/Tomahawk/Mercer; Sallie Spencer, senior, Northland Pines; Katarina Otter-Giese, senior, Waupaca.

Forward: Asucena Boyer, sophomore, Lakeland/Tomahawk/Mercer; Emily Schafer, freshman, Medford; Gabbie Herfindahl, junior, Northland Pines.

Honorable Mention
