Pearl Street demolitions complete

Project a month-long process

By Scott Bellile

The commercial buildings at 401 and 405 S. Pearl St. in downtown New London were razed in an approximately six-week process that lasted from late June until early August.

Now the New London City Council will need to come up with a plan for the vacant city-owned lot.

Ideas proposed have included a parking lot for New London Public Library, which is located across the street; building a new public library; or putting the land up for sale for private development.

Statewide Razing of Combined Locks performed the demolition at a cost of around $68,000 to the city of New London, as approved by the council in April.
