Nov. 2: “The Dawn Patrol,” directed by Edmund Goulding, is actually a remake of the 1930 film about fighter pilots in World War I. Most film critics consider this 1938 movie to be the superior version of the story.

Dec. 7: “It’s a Wonderful Life” is the quintessential holiday film from the era of the studio system.

Directed by Frank Capra, this 1946 movie stars James Stewart as George Bailey, whose adventures and tribulations lead him to the conclusion promised in the title. Also in the cast are Donna Reed, Lionel Barrymore, Thomas Mitchell and Gloria Grahame.
