Voss, Evan E.

Evan E. Voss, age 93, New London, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017 following a short illness, at Bethany Home, Waupaca.

He was born on September 22, 1923 in the Town of Union (Waupaca County), son of Max and Eleanor (Wohlrabe) Voss. Evan was united in marriage to Evangeline Soffa in 1968. He graduated from Manawa High School and went on to attend school in Rapids and Stevens Point. Evan was drafted in the US Army in 1943; he fought in WWII with the 36th Infantry Division in Italy, France and Germany. He received the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, Bronze Star, and four Purple Hearts; he was also awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Infantryman Badge, seven Major Campaign Ribbons, and the French Legion Honor Award. Following the Korean War Evan continued his service in the US Army Reserve rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Evan returned home to run the family dairy farm that was owned by his father and grandfather. In addition to work, Evan loved elk hunting and fishing.

Evan is survived by his wife Evangeline; children, Judy (fiancé Larry) Meyer, Mosinee; James (Lynette) Voss, Stevens Point; son-in-law, Michael Nualla, San Francisco; grandchildren, Brent (fiancé Kara Thiel) Meyer, Phoenix AZ; Isaac Voss, La Crosse; Ashton Voss, Stevens Point and Oakley Voss, Stevens Point; sisters in-law, Joyce Voss, Iola and Jo Nieland, Green Bay; Kevin Mitchell, special person treated as a son, and also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Margie Nualla, three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services for Evan will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church, New London with Rev. Marcus Schulz officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Full military rites will be held.
