Wittenberg-Birnamwood has turned out to be one of the surprise football teams in the Central Wisconsin Large Conference this season.

The Chargers improved to 4-2 and 2-2 in conference play Sept. 22 with a convincing 36-0 win over Weyauwega-Fremont. The Indians, hosting the Chargers for Homecoming, fell to 0-6 and 0-4 in the CWC-Large.

The Chargers took a 16-0 lead into the second quarter on 1-yard touchdown runs from Dalton Zeinert and Trevor Groshek.

Jack Stewart added a 1-yard score in the second quarter that gave the Chargers a 22-0 halftime lead and Stewart and Zeinert scored on runs of 13 and 51 yards, respectively, in the third quarter.

W-B outgained the Indians 305-105 on the ground and 99-60 through the air.

Brandon Scheer led the Indians with 66 yards on 14 carries, while Stewart and Zeinert led the Chargers with 89 and 88, respectively.

The Indians will travel to Manawa Friday, Sept. 29, for the team’s annual game with the Wolves. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
