Heroin bust at courthouse

A deputy found heroin on a woman who was in court for prior charges.

Sonnie Jo Meier, 25, Waupaca, was charged Wednesday, Oct. 4, with possession of narcotics.

On Tuesday, Oct. 3, Waupaca County Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Traeger was escorting Meier to the courthouse after she failed to make a Sept. 25 court appearance for charges of burglary, theft, credit card theft and illegal possession of prescription drugs.

According to the criminal complaint, Meier kept asking Traeger to see the cellphone in her purse. When he examined the cellphone, Traeger reported finding a bindle of heroin inside of it.

He also reported finding needles, cotton swabs and Narcan, a drug used to treat heroin overdoses.

On April 24, prosecutors filed the burglary and theft charges against Meier and she was released on a a $2,500 signature bond.

During that same month, the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office were investigating Meier as a possible drug dealer.

A confidential informant reportedly purchased cocaine from Meier on April 10 and methamphetamine from her on April 17, according to a criminal complaint filed against her on Oct. 3.

Meier is currently in custody on a $5,000 cash bond.
