Teams raise cancer awareness

Rosholt wins Dig Pink volleyball match

By Holly Neumann

The Iola-Scandinavia and Rosholt volleyball teams came together Oct. 12 in their annual Dig Pink match to help fight the battle against cancer.

The message? You never have to fight alone.

“I think it’s an important event because it brings both communities together to honor those lost, support those who are fighting and celebrate those who have overcome this awful disease,” I-S coach Teresa Kielblock said.

“It’s a fundraiser with a cause,” Rosholt coach Steph Burclaw said. “These girls put on a good show for a great benefit.”

The teams took to the court to not only play the game they love, but also to bring awareness to the disease.

Rosholt ended up taking three of five sets to win the match. The Hornets picked up 25-13, 25-20 and 15-11 wins, while the Thunderbirds had 25-19 and 25-23 wins.

“It’s so awesome to see how many people come out to support each other,” Kielblock said.

“It’s an emotional time for a lot of people tonight,” Burclaw added. “It really touches home.”
