Popke, Joyce E.

Joyce Evelyn Popke, age 89, of New London, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 20, 2017 after a short illness.

Joyce was born on November 27, 1927 to the late Elwood and Alvina (Platte) Hutchison in New London. She graduated from New London High School. On May 25, 1946 she was united in marriage to LaVerne Popke. He preceded her in death in 2010. Joyce lived in New London her entire life and worked at Prahl’s Soda Fountain in New London and Elm Tree Bakery (Rich’s) for many years. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, line dancing and country music. She was a member of the Red Hat Honeys and was known as a cake artist. Joyce loved to travel!

Joyce is survived by her 5 children; Daryl (Judy) Popke, New London, Pamela Bult (fiancé David Winkler), Lafayette, CO, Penni Swenson Popke, Appleton, Vicki (Fred) Metzig, Neenah and Randall (Jean) Popke, New London; 11 grandchildren, Korena (Lance) Guyette, Heather (Mark) Passmore, Nichol (Bret) Lamprecht, Lisa Bult, Justin (Ariadne Lie) Bult, Kristopher (Deanna) Popke, Zachary Swenson, Meghan Metzig (special friend Dan Farm), Anthony Popke, Ashley (Dylan) Bosquez and Andrew Popke; 14 great-grandchildren, Tyler, McKenzie and Landen Guyette, Mara and Sawyer Passmore, Avery and Sophia Lamprecht, Wyatt and Emmett Bosquez, Anthony Popke, Beckett and Emerson Vandertuin, Kora Popke and Ophelia Bult; sisters, Jeanette Plowman and Maryette (Richard) Fischer and sister-in-law, June Close Baehman. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Martin Mikulski, Gordon Hutchison, Clifford Hutchison and infant brother, Glenn.

The funeral for Joyce will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London. Pastor William Heiges will be officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London and also from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church. Burial will be at Floral Hill Cemetery in New London. The family wishes to thank Home Instead Senior Care Caretakers- Heather, Chris, Pam and Lisa.
