T-Birds beat Chargers

I-S plays strong second half

The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds defeated the Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers 75-65 in a Friday night Central Wisconsin East Conference game.

The T-Birds got on the board first and had an 11-point lead in the first half of the game, but turned to ball over eight times. The half ended with W-B up 31-29.

Iola-Scandinavia came back strong in the second half, outscoring the Chargers 46-34 for a victory.

Charlie Stockwell led the scoring a game high 26 points and bringing down 12 rebounds. Other T-Birds in double figures were Carter Kurki with 17 points, Connor Kurki with 13 and Jayden Sivertson with 10.

Topping the scoring for the Chargers was Matt Kapitz with 19 and Trevor Groshek with 17.

The win improved Iola-Scandinavia’s season record to 2-2.

The T-Birds will travel to Amherst on Tuesday, Dec. 12 to take on the Falcons.
