Dalland, Lola May

Lola May Dalland, age 79, of Iola, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Iola Living Oaks surrounded by her family.

She was born in Stoughton, Wisconsin on January 21, 1938, a daughter of the late Ella Theola Goli and Floyd Kolden. She married Donald Luttrull on May 3, 1958. She later married George Dalland on Dec. 24, 1983 in Iola. He preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1996. Lola May worked at Krause Publications, Miller Electric in Appleton and Appleton Medical Center. She had a love for music all her adult life from being a member of the of the high school band and a baton twirler. She attended Concordia College as a music major and passed the music tradition down to her family. She played organ for over 55 years. Lola May played for worship services, funerals and weddings at local churches including Hitterdahl, Northland and Our Saviors Lutheran. She was a piano instructor and enjoyed teaching young children including her grandchildren how to play. She was very active in the Hitterdahl Lutheran Church, serving as Ladies Aid President, Choir Director for over 20 years, custodian and serving on the church council. Lola May also enjoyed baking, and teaching her grandchildren the art of making Norwegian pastries including lefse. She was very active in cooking lutefisk with her late husband,George and son-in-law, Greg at the Iola Winter Carnival and Northland Lutheran Church; and became known as as the “Codmother”. Lola May was a member of the Iola Historical Society and the Sons of Norway. She liked to stay busy and looked forward each evening to having her one a day adult beverage which required six ice cubes only; before going to sleep with her kitty “Yenta”.

She is survived by her daughter, Tanya (Greg) Peotter, of Iola; stepchildren: Ivar Dalland, Dean (Laurie) Dalland, of Iola, Peggy (Phil) Zeinke, of Iola and June Littler, of Iola; six grandchildren: Kari (Patrick) Bennett, Renee (Kirk) Ibe, Josh (Suzanne) Littler, Leah (Kevin) Locke, Lori Littler, Meghan (Josh) Thompson; 12 great-grandchildren: Will Bennett and Ellen Bennett, Nikkitah Ibe, Kolden Krueger, Savannah Ibe and Dallas Ibe, Kaylee Littler, Baylie Locke and Logan Locke, Lucas Gaede, Faith Thompson and Bennett Thompson. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Kolden and step son-in-law, Larry Littler.

Funeral Service will be held at Hitterdahl Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 22nd with Reverend Dale Wilson officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola. Visitation will also be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Hitterdahl Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hitterdahl Lutheran Church Choir. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pam (Waller) Dahle and Mary Fiane, who spent countless hours helping care for Lola May. May God bless you.
