A longtime Waupaca area tradition is alive and well.
More than 50 participants ran into Lime Kiln Lake on the Waupaca Chain o’ Lakes Jan. 1 for the New Year’s Day Polar Plunge.
As in the past, the number of spectators outnumbered the participants, as people lined the docks at Becker Marine to watch.
The event, a fundraiser for the Waupaca Fire Department, also included a water rescue demonstration, bonfire and tailgate party.
More than 50 people rang in 2018 by testing the waters of Lime Kiln Lake for the annual New Year’s Day Polar Plunge. The air temperature at this year’s event hovered around 0 degrees, but the water temperature was about 35 degrees.
