Lawson, Charles Sr.

Charles E. Lawson Sr., age 89, New London, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Wisconsin Veterans Home, King.

He was born in Gallipolis, Ohio on January 7, 1929, son of the late Albert and Clara (Jones) Lawson. On August 5, 1946, he was united in marriage to Rita Groszkiewicz. She preceded him in death in 2002. Charles proudly served his country in the US Navy. He worked at Banner Lumber in Milwaukee for over 30 years. After moving to New London, Charles worked for the New London School District for several years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1797. Charles was a hard working man of modest means who took very good care of his family. His cabinet making skills were exceptional; his love for woodworking was always apparent in every cabinet he made. Charles loved deer hunting and fishing. He loved to shoot pool and socialize at the White Eagle when he lived on the south side of Milwaukee.

Charles is survived by his sons, Allen (Margie); Brian (Kathryn); 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, an infant daughter, two sons, Charles Jr. and Duane, and 11 siblings.

Funeral Mass for Charles will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bear Creek, Fr. Bob Groher will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Full Military Rites will be held.
