Child porn suspect identified

A Weyauwega man is currently in custody after police searched his home Wednesday.

Criminal charges have not been filed against Daniel Vaughn, 39, as of 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, and the case is still under investigation.

Weyauwega Police Chief Gerald Poltrock told the Waupaca County Post the New Zealand Digital Child Exploitation Team (NZDCET) noticed images and video of child pornography were being downloaded from a social media platform.

After tracing the downloads to an IP address in the United States, NZDCET notified Homeland Security, which contacted the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office.

Weyauwega police began investigating the IP address and Vaughn after communicating with the sheriff’s office.

“We had to determine whether that IP address belonged to that home address,” Poltrock said.

While executing the search warrant for possible child porn, officers discovered psylocibin mushrooms growing in the basement.

Weyauwega Police Sgt. Brandon Leschke then secured a second warrant to search for and seize any illegal substances in the house.

Poltrock said Vaughn was not at home when the search warrant was executed.

Vaughn was arrested Wednesday afternoon at his place of work in Kaukauna.
