Teen faces drug charges

Felony charges were filed against a passenger in a car where police found narcotics.

Henry T. Caffrey, 18, De Pere, is charged in Waupaca County with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent, possession of Schedule IV drugs with intent, possession of marijuana with intent and possession of narcotics.

On Dec. 1, 2017, Wisconsin State Trooper Sarah Burdick stopped a vehicle on U.S. Highway 10 near State Highway 96 in rural Fremont.

Burdick reported that the vehicle was traveling over 75 mph and had a burned out headlight.

While speaking with the driver, identified as Mitchell A. Altergott, 18, De Pere, Burdick noticed what appeared to be marijuana flakes scattered in the front of the vehicle between the driver’s and passenger’s seat.

She conducted a search of the vehicle and found more than 6 ounces of pot, 75 alprazolam pills which are used to treat anxiety, six pills identified as ecstasy and seven plastic bags with white powder identified as cocaine, meth and caffeine.

The total value of the drugs were estimated at $3,850.

Burdick also found a tightly rolled $100 bill with a white powdery residue in it.

Altergott was charged with drug-related crimes on Dec. 4 and released on a $2,000 cash bond. He is scheduled for arraignment on Feb. 28.

Burdick later obtained a search warrant for Caffrey’s cellphone.

She reported finding messages between Caffrey, Altergott and others that referenced the sale of drugs.

Investigators believe Caffrey and Altergott were traveling from Brown County to the Eau Claire area to sell the drugs that were found in the car.

Caffrey was arrested on Feb. 2, charged and released on a $5,000 signature bond.
