Polar Bears, Bulldogs wrestlers advance

Five New London wrestlers advanced to sectionals for their performances in the WIAA Division 2 Regional in Seymour on Saturday, Feb. 10.

The top two wrestlers in each weight class qualified for sectionals. Among them were the Bulldogs’ Adam Armour (126), Julian Polanco (132), Garrett Ruckdashel (138), Jacob Hoier (170) and Travis Kuhnke (285).

Ruckdashel finished in first place in his weight class, while the other four wrestlers finished runner-up.

The Bulldogs finished in third place at the regional but did not advance to sectionals as a team.

Clintonville also competed in Seymour. The Truckers finished seventh at the regional with no sectional qualifiers.

Clintonville’s Tyler Tellock (160) was the Truckers’ top finisher in fourth place. Tabitha Breitrick (170) and Levi Engel (220) both placed fifth.

Ben Cotherman (106) finished place in sixth, as did Matthew Skowronski (145) for the Truckers.

New London’s sectional qualifiers will compete at the Oconto Falls sectional on Saturday, Feb. 17, starting at 10:30 a.m.

The top three finishers in each weight class will advance to state.

Polar Bears advance

Hortonville will have six wrestlers compete at sectionals after the WIAA Division 1 Kaukauna regional on Saturday, Feb. 10.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class advance in Division 1. They included Polar Bears Eric Barnett (113), Rece Bennett (126), Colin Schuler (152), Kirkland Hills (170), Josh Werner (182) and Brady Buchman (220).

Barnett was the lone Polar Bear to win his weight class, while Schuler, Hills and Werner all finished in second place.

Buchman finished third. Bennett placed fourth.

The Polar Bears finished in fifth place at the regional and did not advance to team sectionals.

The six Hortonville wrestlers will compete at the Green Bay Preble sectional on Saturday, Feb. 17, starting at 10:30 a.m.

The top two wrestlers in each weight class will qualify for state.
