A woman is accused of abandoning her 7-year-old daughter.
Bobbi Jo K. Schleicher, 27, New London, is charged with felony child abandonment and misdemeanor child neglect.
On Jan. 19, New London Police Sgt. Earl Ruckdashel was dispatched to the 1100 block of Beckert Road to investigate a complaint regarding a young girl.
The girl’s uncle told Ruckdashel that he found her standing alone in a nearby parking lot, crying. She was wearing thin pants and a jacket.
The girl said her mother told her not to talk to anyone at school and became angry when she learned the girl spoke with a school counselor.
Ruckdashel went to Schleicher’s apartment, knocked on the door, but nobody answered.
He left the child in the care of her aunt and uncle.
About two hours later, Ruckdashel and other officers returned to the apartment. Again, Ruckdashel knocked on the door and nobody answered.
The officers then breached the door to check on the welfare of a 4-year-old child who lived there. Inside, they found Schleicher and the 4-year-old child.
According to the criminal complaint, Schleicher would not speak to a Child Protective Services worker and she described the girl as “a lying little bitch.”
Schleicher reportedly told the police that the children were not supposed to talk with counselors or anybody because they want to get her in trouble.
Schleicher is scheduled for an initial court appearance on March 6.
