Battery to officer

Police arrest man after confrontation

Louis C. Dresen Jr. 35, New London, is charged with battery to an officer, resisting an officer and disorderly conduct.

At 12:20 p.m. Friday, March 16, New London Police officers Jeremy Mulroy and Nick Kamba were dispatched for a man out in traffic near Pearl and North Water streets. He was reported as having difficulty walking due to possible intoxication.

When the officers arrived and made contact, he was identified as Dresen.

According to the criminal complaint, Dresen smelled of alcohol and was immediately confrontational.

While the officers were speaking with Dresen, Kamba placed his hand into his own pants pockets.

Dresen reportedly said, “Get your hand our of your pocket before I have to do something.”

Dresen then screamed and swore at Kamba, police say.

When Kamba told Dresen to calm down, he looked at Mulroy and reportedly said, “Do you want to fight?”

The officers reported Dresen then took a few steps toward Mulroy.

Kamba then informed Dresen he was under arrest.

Dresen responded by backing away and saying no.

When the officers tried to grab Dresen’s arms, he reportedly threw a punch at Kamba, just missing his head.

As the officers escorted Dresen to the ground, he kicked Mulroy in the thigh. Kamba responded by spraying Dresen in the face with pepper spray.

Dresen was arrested, then released after posting a $2,500 cash bond.
