Meth, domestic abuse charges filed

Man arrested at convenience store

In two separate criminal cases, Dustin L. Bohringer, 28, Waupaca, is charged with possession of methamphetamine and felony bail jumping, and with strangulation, felony victim intimidation, battery and disorderly conduct as acts of domestic abuse, and felony bail jumping.

On the evening of March 20, Waupaca County Deputy Brittany Mathewson responded to a suspicious person complaint at the Scandinavia Convenience Store. The store clerk reported a man was asking customers for a ride.

When Mathewson arrived at the store, she saw through the window a man talking to the clerk who then walked away from the counter.

The clerk told Mathewson the man seemed harmless and that he had gone into the bathroom.

Mathewson waited until the man exited the bathroom, and asked him why he had been asking people for rides.

The man, identified as Bohringer, said he was trying to get back to Waupaca.

According to the criminal complaint, Bohringer said he had been in the Iola area and started walking back to Waupaca.

He was near County Trunk B when a friend stopped and offered him a ride.

Bohringer said as they were headed toward Waupaca, another officer attempted to pull his friend over.

Instead of stopping, the friend began speeding, Bohringer said.

Bohringer reportedly jumped out of the moving car to avoid getting into trouble. He also said he grabbed some syringes from his friend’s car, the complaint says.

Waupaca County Deputy Michael Richter reported trying to stop a vehicle on March 20 near the intersection of County B and County J.

At the convenience store, Mathewson conducted a pat down search and found capped syringes in Bohringer’s pocket. She also found two syringe caps.

Deputy Graham Barden arrived at the scene and conducted an initial search of the store’s bathroom, where he found two uncapped syringes in the toilet’s tank.

Barden also reported finding fresh track marks on Bohringer’s right arm.

Further search of the bathroom uncovered two small white rocks near the edge of the sink. Deputies suspected the rocks were methamphetamine and sent them to the state crime lab.

The contents of one of the syringes found in the bathroom tested positive for meth.

On Dec. 26, 2017, Waupaca Police Officer Tom Grant responded to a domestic complaint on the 400 block of South Division Street.

Grant met with Bohringer’s ex-girlfriend who said she and Bohringer had been in a relationsip but were no longer living together.

She reportedly said she had been on a probation hold Dec. 1-11 and during her time in jail other inmates called Bohringer and said she was giving police information against him.

Investigators say the calls were confirmed by recorded conversations between Bohringer and three women.

When the woman was released from jail on Dec. 11, she met with her landlord and Bohringer. She told Bohringer he needed to move out because the terms of her probation included that she have no contact with him, the complaint says.

The woman reported she had given Bohringer a key to the apartment when he first moved in with her.

At 1:30 a.m. Dec. 17, Bohringer allegedly used the key to enter the woman’s apartment and attack her.

According to the criminal complaint, the woman told police Bohringer pushed, scratched, pulled her hair, banged her head, choked her from behind and slammed her to the floor.

On Dec. 27, Waupaca police and county deputies arrested Bohringer in Waupaca.

Waupaca Police Officer Bret Rodenz reported finding two syringes in Bohringer’s jacket pocket at the time of his arrest.

Bohringer also has two open felony cases from 2017 involving misappropriating ID, concealing stolen property and forgery uttering.
