Hardwicke earns state award

County social worker recognized for service

As part of Wisconsin’s celebration of Social Work Month, Heather Hardwicke was recognized on March 29 for her dedication, commitment and exceptional service to the children and families of Waupaca County.

Hardwicke was among the five child welfare professionals from around Wisconsin who received a 2018 Caring for Kids award by Department of Children and Families (DCF) Secretary Eloise Anderson during a ceremony at the State Capitol.

“These awards serve as a way to recognize the work that these caring professionals do to help children and families live better lives,” said Anderson. “Social work assists people in all stages of life and helps meet the basic needs of all people, especially our most vulnerable.”

A worker with the Waupaca County Department of Health and Human Services, Hardwicke was chosen to receive the award from a list of nominations made by peers and other Wisconsin human service professionals.

Her nomination stood out from the many submissions because of her tireless efforts in building collaboration between different programs, including child welfare and youth justice and for her commitment to improving outcomes for families by serving them in a trauma-informed, non-judgmental manner.

Award selection criteria included years of service and experience, adapting to new initiatives, advocacy, leadership and a proven record of ensuring the well-being of children and families.
