Sanders back in jail

An officer found meth during a traffic stop.

William J. Sanders, 35, Waupaca, is charged with felony possession of methamphetamine.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, State Trooper Mitch Butterbrodt stopped a gold Toyota with a loud exhaust on County Trunk K.

Butterbrodt noticed that the front seat passenger, identified as Sanders, seemed nervous and his hands were shaking.

“Every time he would ask or mention something about whether there was anything in the vehicle, Sanders would break eye contact and look away,” according to the criminal complaint.

When he ran a records check, Butterbrodt found that Sanders had been recently released from prison and had a record of drug-related charges and five drunken driving convictions.

Butterbrodt reported finding 0.53 grams of meth in the vehicle.

Although the court set a $5,000 signature bond, Sanders currently remains in custody on an extended supervision hold.

On Dec. 1, 2014, Waupaca County sentenced Sanders to 30 months in prison for fifth drunken driving offense.

On Feb. 3, 2015, Waushara County revoked his probation on a fourth drunken driving offense and sentenced Sanders to two years in prison to run concurrently with the Waupaca County sentence.

On Aug. 16, 2016, Sanders was released to extended supervision.

On Feb. 21, 2017, Waupaca County placed Sanders on 10 years of probation for felony possession of amphetamine with intent.

On March 6, 2017, Waupaca County revoked his probation and returned Sanders to prison on the drunken driving and an earlier substantial battery conviction.

On Jan. 23, 2018, Sanders was released from prison on extended supervision.
