Comets win at home

Denmark completes the sweep

The Waupaca baseball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a pair of home wins.

The Comets picked up a 9-5 win over New London April 28 and a 7-5 victory over Stoughton. Waupaca also fell 4-3 and 1-0 to Denmark.

Waupaca 9, New London 5
A pair of four-run innings helped the Comets beat the Bulldogs.

New London took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first inning, but the Comets answered with four runs in the third, one in the fifth and four in the sixth. New London tacked on four runs in the seventh.

Jack Menzies and Jake Pankratz each had two of the Comets’ nine hits. Pankratz hit a home run and Brenden Canterbury picked up the win on the mound.

Waupaca 7, Stoughton 5
The Vikings didn’t have an answer for Pankratz, who had three hits, including a double and a triple.

Waupaca trailed 2-0 heading into the second inning, but scored three times in the second, once in the third and three times in the sixth.

Stoughton outhit the Comets 11-9, but also committed three errors.

Adam Kennedy pitched three innings to get the win.

Denmark 4, Waupaca 3
Denmark trailed 3-2 heading into the seventh April 26, but came up with two runs and held Waupaca scoreless in the bottom of the inning.

Menzies had three of the Comets’ hit and Pankratz hit a home run in the game, held at Lakemen Field.

Denmark 1, Waupaca 0
Brennen Miller scored the game’s only run in the eighth inning after walking, stealing second and scoring on an error. He also pitched two innings to get the win on the mound.

Pankratz took the loss despite holding the Vikings to two hits and striking out nine batters.

The Comets will host Clintonville Tuesday, May 1, for a 4 p.m. doubleheader and will host Luxemburg-Casco for a doubleheader Saturday, May 5. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
