Comets get No. 1 seed

Baseball tournament starts May 24

Waupaca and Amherst received No. 1 seeds for the upcoming WIAA state baseball tournament.

Games in four divisions will get underway Thursday, May 24, and the tournament will wrap up Tuesday to Thursday, June 12-14, at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute.

Here’s a rundown of how local teams will open the tournament:

Division 2
Ripon Sectional: No. 1 Waupaca will host No. 4 Winneconne or No. 5 Omro, Tuesday, May 29.

Division 3
St. Mary Catholic Sectional: No. 5 Weyauwega-Fremont at No. 4 Wittenberg-Birnamwood, Thursday, May 24; No. 6 Manawa at No. 3 Pacelli, Thursday, May 24; Weyauwega-Fremont/Wittenberg-Birnamwood winner at No. 1 Amherst, Tuesday, May 29; Manawa/Pacelli winner at No. 2 Iola-Scandinavia, Tuesday, May 29.

Division 4
Oakfield Sectional: No. 5 Tigerton or No. 4 Tri-County at No. 1 Almond-Bancroft, Tuesday, May 29; No. 3 Rosholt or No. 6 Marion at No. 2 Wild Rose, Tuesday, May 29.
