Reverend John P. Brandt, New London, age 86, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018 at Appleton Medical Center.
He was born on July 12, 1931 in Appleton, WI, son of the late Rev. Frederick and Esther (Meyer) Brandt. He was baptized as a child of God and was confirmed in the Christian faith at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Appleton. He attended Northwestern Preparatory School and Northwestern College in Watertown, WI, and graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, WI, in 1957. On June 15, 1957, he married Barbara Mae Schroeder in St. Louis, MO. John enjoyed the blessing of serving nearly 61 years in pastoral ministry within the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, serving congregations in Faith, Dupree, Altamont, and Clear Lake, South Dakota; Readfield and Larson, WI; and in retirement at Black Creek, WI. He served as Chaplain at the Good Shepherd Nursing home in Seymour, WI, for seven years, and he served on the Board of Regents for Fox Valley Lutheran High School in Appleton for 12 years. John’s hobbies included winemaking, skiing, and singing barbershop music. He annually submitted wines for competition at the Wisconsin State Fair; he served as a member of the National Ski Patrol at Nordic Mountain in Wautoma, WI, for over 25 years; he participated as a member of the Pride of the Valley and the Fox Valleyaires barbershop choruses; and he served as the public announcer for the Webfooter Water Ski Team in Fremont, WI. In recent years he submitted guest columns for the Appleton Post Crescent, the same newspaper he delivered as a boy many years earlier.
John is survived by his wife Barbara Brandt; his daughter Rebecca (Dennis) Bishop, Port Orchard, WA; his son, James (Kathleen) Brandt, Menomonee Falls, WI; his son, Peter (Jennifer) Brandt, Fremont, WI; his daughter, Kathleen (David) Schroeder, Fond du Lac, WI; his daughter, Samantha (Lance) List, Pound, WI; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeannine (Dr. Alan) Olson, Morgan Hill, CA; and a brother-in-law, Paul (Darlene) Schroeder, Florissant, MO. He was preceded in death by his son, John Brandt; his parents, Frederick and Esther Brandt; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frederick and Mildred Schroeder; his brother and sister-in-law, David and Lois Brandt; his brother-in-law Frederick Schroeder.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 201 E Birch Street, Black Creek, WI with Rev. Stephen Schlicht and Rev. Joshua Bishop officiating. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Cline Hanson Funeral Home, 209 W.
