Waupaca, Manawa win regionals

Gardner, Schuelke shoot low rounds

What do the Waupaca and Manawa boys’ golf teams have in common?
A regional championship and a golfer with the low round of 73.
Both teams advanced to WIAA sectional competition May 22 by winning their respective regional meets and also had a golfer turn in the lowest round of the match.
Waupaca won the Division 2 Berlin Regional at Mascoutin Golf Club behind Mason Gardner’s medalist round of 73, while Ryan Schuelke’s 73 helped Manawa win the Division 3 Lena Regional at Parkway Golf Course in Pound.
Iola-Scandinavia also hosted a Division 3 regional at Glacier Wood Golf Club.
Division 2
Berlin Regional
Waupaca won the meet and qualified for the Ripon Sectional with a 340.
Other teams scores were Xavier (347), Little Chute (349), Winneconne (353), Fox Valley Lutheran (367), Ripon (380), Wautoma/Wild Rose and New London (385), Omro (410) and Berlin (416).
Other scores for Waupaca were Eli Bartel (84), Noah Carrick (89) and Asher Wright (94).
Waupaca, Xavier, Little Chute and Winneconne advanced to the Ripon Sectional, set for Tuesday, May 29, at The Golf Courses of Lawsonia in Green Lake.
Division 3
Lena Regional
Manawa won the meet with a 332, followed by Sevastopol (368), St. Thomas Aquinas (395), Shiocton (414), Gibraltar (421), Weyauwega-Fremont (441) and Green Bay NEW Lutheran (451).
Other scores for Manawa included Peyton Schuelke (78), Seth Forbes (84) and Zach Kriesel (97).
Weyauwega-Fremont’s Logan Witt and Logan Kicherer qualified for sectionals as an individual with rounds of 93 and 106, respectively. Other scores for W-F were Morgan Folk and Noah Rucks (121).
Manawa, Sevastopol, St. Thomas Aquinas and Shiocton, as well as the individual qualifiers, will compete at the Marathon Sectional, scheduled for May 29 at Pine Valley Golf Course in Marathon.
Iola-Scandinavia Regional
Iola-Scandinavia placed seventh out of eight teams with a score of 476.
Pacelli won the meet with a 355, followed by Marathon (385), Stanley-Boyd (406), Thorp (431), Newman Catholic (443), Assumption (469), Iola-Scandinavia (476) and Marion (499).
Iola-Scandinavia’s scores included Ben Cady (104), Trenton Niemi (114), Xander Gambsky (128) and Collin Davids (130).
The top four teams will also compete at the Marathon Sectional.
