Carnival returns

Hortonville Homecoming this weekend

By John Faucher

The Hortonville Civic Association will host its second year of an expanded celebration in Alonzo Park Friday and Saturday, June 1-2.

Last year the civic association took over Chocolate Fest after the Fox West Chamber of Commerce expressed an interest in moving away from community specific events.

The civic group took over and expanded the event into two days, adding a carnival and midway. The group also offered free live entertainment and an artisan and vendor village.

This year’s event name has changed to Hortonville Homecoming.

The association is again teaming up with other civic groups in the village to provide an expanded selection of food and refreshments during the event.

The Hortonville Lions Club will set up a fish fry and refreshments from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, June 1. Musician and songwriter Grayling Pingel will perform Friday night on stage from 6 pm. to 10 p.m. Ride-goers can get unlimited rides for $25 on wrist band night Friday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. The carnival and midway re-opens from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.

The Knights of Columbus will hold a porky and pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 2. The civic association will serve food and refreshments from 12 p.m. until 11 p.m. Saturday.

Park upgrades
Last year the civic association helped pay for substantial upgrades to the park’s electrical system so it could host larger events at the facility.

The upgrades replaced an existing 100-amp service with a 300-amp service allowing adequate power to the pavilion, an adjacent field, and lighting for nighttime events.

Hortonville Civic Association President Peter Olk said the group is currently working on a large capital campaign to raise funds to improve Miller Park in Hortonville.

“It’s an aggressive venture to add parking, a pavilion, ice rink, basketball court and a splash pad water feature,” said Olk.

All funds raised by the association are used to support community events and improvements to public facilities in the Village of Hortonville.

This weekend’s event sponsors include the Hortonville Civic Association, Gilbert’s Sentry Foods, Wolf River Community Bank, Global Fab, and SCP/ EverGreen Pallet.
