Schuelke leads Manawa

Wolves win Marathon Sectional

The season is far from over for the Manawa boys’ golf team.

The Wolves qualified for the WIAA state meet as a team May 29 by winning a Division 3 sectional at Marathon’s Pine Valley Golf Course.

Ryan Schuelke’s medalist round of 73 helped Manawa with the 11-team meet with a 337.

Pacelli, which competes with Manawa in the Central Wisconsin Conference, also qualified for state with a 343, while other team scores were Coleman (359), Marathon (365), Sevastopol (370), Crandon (395), Crivitz (400), Thorp (406), Stanley-Boyd (407), Florence (423) and Shiocton (428).

Schuelke, who will compete on the men’s team at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, carded a 38 on the front nine and a 35 on the back nine. Other scores for Manawa were Peyton Schuelke, second (74); Seth Forbes, 12th (88); Conor Schuelke, 42nd (102); and Zach Kriesel, tied for 61st (117).

Weyauwega-Fremont also sent a pair of golfers to the meet. Logan Witt tied for 39th with a 101, while Logan Kicherer placed 48th with a 109.

The state meet will be held Monday and Tuesday, June 4-5, at University of Wisconsin Golf Course in Madison.

The Wolves are making their second trip to state. Manawa also placed sixth in Division 3 in 2000.
