Scouts build benches

Project at Thern Farm

By Scott Bellile

Visitors to Thern Farm in New London have new spots outside to take a seat courtesy of Boy Scout Troop 59.

“All of the benches they built have been sponsored by supporters of the farm and will have plaques attached honoring loved ones,” said Megan Koehler, program director for Thern Farm. “The benches will be placed around the property and along our ‘in progress’ walking trail allowing people to sit and enjoy nature and the beauty of the farm property.”

The Boy Scouts built the six benches over three work sessions and delivered them to Thern Farm on May 22.

“In the end I think they were really proud to see them completed and lined up together and hopefully once the water goes down along the trail they can go back there and walk along and see the benches in place,” said Jennifer Grumann, committee chairperson for Troop 59,

Nine Life Scouts in Troop 59 will soon look to achieve the Eagle Scout rank, Grumann said. An experience like this should help prepare them for the more challenging project they will eventually need to tackle to earn that Eagle Scout award.

“We hope to work with them again on future projects,” Koehler said.

The Scouts who created the benches were Keenin Ernst, Braedon Gardner, Vincent Glatczak, Ben Grumann, Storm Handrich, Connor Jones, Zack Jones, Brett Krake, Riley Krake, Collin Morien, Myles O’Brien, Ben Olsen, Sam Olsen, Jack Roland, Tyler Schulz, Tyler Pamperin, Adrian Razo, Gavin Shepard, Collin Shepard, Caleb Tickler, Connor Weber, Cameron Wegener and Henry Wesenick.
