Clintonville wins regional title

Trucker baseball playoff run continues

By Erik Buchinger

A pair of four-run innings led the Clintonville baseball team to an 8-2 regional title victory over Seymour on Wednesday, May 30.

Clintonville will play either Mosinee or Rhinelander in Chilton for the sectional semifinals on Tuesday, June 5 at 10 a.m.

Seymour got on the board first with a sacrifice fly to centerfield in the bottom of the first inning, but the Truckers responded with a four-run second inning.

Clintonville scored its first two runs on bases loaded walks, followed by a sacrifice fly and a throwing error by the catcher gave the Truckers a 4-1 lead.

The deficit remained the same until Seymour added a run in the fourth, but again Clintonville responded with a four-run inning in the fifth.

Each team added a run in the sixth inning before the game was stopped because of the weather, but it was called final with the score being 8-2 after five innings.

Jared Cartwright earned the win for Clintonville, throwing 3 2/3 innings and allowed two unearned runs on five hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

The Truckers’ lone hit was a triple by Logan Liesenfelder, but Clintonville drew eight walks in the victory.

Liesenfelder scored twice, walked and drove in a run. Keenan Doornink had two RBIs and scored a run with two walks.

Clintonville finished the regular season with a 2-15 record but has won three consecutive playoff games to win the regional title.

If the Truckers win their first game on Tuesday in Chilton, they will play either Fox Valley Lutheran or Luxemburg-Casco later that day at 4 p.m. for a spot in the state tournament.
