Exploring wetlands

Winchester speaker on aquatic diversity

Paul Skawinski will present “Unique Creatures and Plants of Wisconsin Wetlands” at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 16, at the Waupaca Area Public Library.

Free and open to the public, the program is sponsored by Winchester Academy.

Skawinski will explore the diversity of aquatic plants and animals in Wisconsin wetlands and lake ecosystems.

From carnivorous bladderworts to fast-flying dragonflies, Wisconsin lakes contain a myriad of organisms.

This presentation will share fun facts about these interesting plants and animals.

Skawinski, author of Aquatic Plants of the Upper Midwest, earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

A teacher of aquatic botany, he also works for UW-Extension’s Lakes Program at UW-SP as the statewide coordinator of the Citizen Lake Monitoring Network.

Skawinski leads the annual aquatic plant identification workshops for the Wisconsin DNR and has taught workshops for Minnesota DNR, Michigan State University, the Morton Arboretum, U.S. Forest Service, and numerous regional and national conferences.

The program is open to the public.

Winchester Academy programs are funded through sponsors and tax-deductible donations.

Dick Hansen is the sponsor of Skawinski’s program.
