Sex assault charged

A Waupaca man remains in custody on a $100,000 cash bond.

Christopher D. Schwenn, 47, is charged with second-degree sexual assault of an unconscious victim.

A 25-year-old woman said she was attending a benefit at Rustic Woods Campground in the town of Lind on Saturday, June 9.

Schwenn and his wife were camping there and told the woman she could stay overnight in their camper.

She fell asleep in the back of the camper between midnight and 1 a.m. Others in the group remained outside sitting around the campfire.

According to the criminal complaint, the woman woke up during the night with Schwenn “aggressively” touching her. She attempted to roll over, but Schwenn allegedly flipped her onto her back and continued assaulting her.

She told Waupaca County Deputy Brittany Mathewson that Schwenn stopped when his wife opened the door to the camper and asked him what he was doing.

Schween then left and went back outside, the complaint says.

The woman’s brother, who had also attended the benefit, stopped by and went into the camper.

The woman said she was shaking so badly her brother asked her what had happened.

When she said she could not tell him, her brother said he would give her a ride home.

Later she told her brother about the incident.

Schwenn reportedly sent the woman a text message that read: “I am completely sick to my stomach thinking about how you must feel. I am so sorry for doing that and I can promise it will not ever happen again to you or anybody.”

The woman told investigators she relives the experience almost every day.

Schwenn faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted.

Conditions of his bond include that he have no contact with the alleged victim, surrender his passport, not leave the state of Wisconsin, consume no alcohol and not camp at a public campground.
