Disney comes to Waupaca

‘Beauty and the Beast Jr.’ performed

The Waupaca Community Children’s Theater brought a taste of Walt Disney to Waupaca.

Mary Zelinske directed the Disney musical production of “Beauty & The Beast Jr.,” based on the original Broadway production and Academy Award-winning movie “Beauty & The Beast.

The play, performed July 23-27 at the Waupaca Recreation Center, tells the story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress.

If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

The hour-long show included several songs, including “Be Our Guest,” “Something There,” “Belle,” “Home,” “Gaston,” “Human Again” and “Beauty and The Beast.”

The cast of more than 20 included Allison Wolff (Belle); Brock Opperman (the Beast); Grayson Feucht (Gaston); Tyler Smidt (Lefou); Rylie Nusz (Maurice); Will Meier (Lumiere); RJ Opperman (Cogsworth); Alicia Boris (Mrs. Potts); River Wohlrabe (Chip); Randi Bruno (Babette); Mia Brier (Madame de la Grande Bouche); Morgan Krueger (beggar woman/enchantress); Aaron Wolff (Monsieur D’arque); Alexis Gilliard, Kaylin Darrow and Krueger (silly girls); Jarah Strain, Emmett Danielson, Darrow and Bruno (narrators); Brody Pate, Parker Wohlrabe and Logan Nusz (wolves); and Parker Scherg, Sianna Feucht, Jordyn Miller and Bailey Opperman (servants/villagers).
