Q&A with Coach Sarah Flohr

By Erik Buchinger

Number of years as head coach: First.

Returning varsity athletes: Kate Christian (12), Alley Ramirez (12), Megan Pankow (12), Mariah Herter (12), Tricia Luedtke (12), Olivia Tews (12), Myah Henderson (12), Tess Ruckdashel (11), Lauren Winkler (11).

Team goals/expectations: To continue to be a strong competitor in the Bay Conference, to continue to make it to sectionals and to have fun.

Team’s strengths: We have a lot of returning varsity players who understand the game and are great at helping coach the new players. In doubles, our strength comes at the net, and in singles the girls are able to move their opponent around on the court.

Team’s weaknesses: We would have the advantage during the set by winning the first set, but then we would end up losing the match due to not being able to finish out the win or going into a tie-breaker the third set and then losing. We will be continuing to work on our mental game during the sets by focusing on points one at a time.

Biggest events on the schedule: Xavier and Conference

What would make for a successful season: Most would say winning matches or placing well at conference. However, a successful season is when the girls continue to adapt their game and play better than previous years.

Why fans should be excited for this year’s team: We have a varsity team full of returners and a freshman team filled with great potential to replace the seniors that we will be losing this year.
