Olson, Robert Bruce

Robert Bruce Olson, age 81 of Waupaca, formerly of Green Bay, Wisconsin passed away on Monday, August 20, 2018 of complications from cancer in Waupaca.

Bob was born on August 16, 1937 in Monroe, Wisconsin, son of the late T.J. and Edna Olson. After graduating from Monroe High School, Bob graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering (1960) and a Masters of Business Administration (1961). Bob remained a faithful Bucky Badger and contributed to the University in many ways as an Alumni. Bob served on the Board of Directors of many non-profit organizations. In addition, he served for many years on the Board of Directors of Bank Mutual of Milwaukee. Bob married his college sweetheart, Marilyn Mau Olson, in 1961. They lived in Green Bay were Bob was the Vice President of Little Rapids Corporation. Bob was an active member of several Presbyterian Churches. In retirement Bob and Marilyn had a home on Long Lake on the Chain O’ Lakes in Waupaca as well as a winter home in Bonita Springs, Florida. Bob loved water activities, following the Badgers football, the Green Bay Packers, traveling, and the stock market.

Bob cared deeply for his family and is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn; daughter Julie Thompson, son Todd (Kerri) Olson, granddaughter Emily Thompson, step-granddaughter Meredith (Jeremy) Shapiro and two great-grandchildren, Edie and Calvin Shapiro. Bob was preceded in death by a son, Gregg in 1974.

The memorial service will be held Saturday, August 25 at 11 a.m. at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca with a reception to follow. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Waupaca Community Foundation. Holly Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
