McCoy, Robert James Jr.

Robert James McCoy Jr., age 82, of New London, WI passed away peacefully with family members by his side on Monday, September 3, 2018.

Bob was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on February 21, 1936 to parents Robert J. McCoy Sr. and Catherine (Morrow) McCoy. He graduated from Appleton High School in 1954 before serving in the U.S. Air Force. Bob then went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and obtained his Masters degree from Illinois State University. Bob was a teacher and administrator who made educating and helping children the focus of his career. After initially teaching at Onarga Military Academy in Illinois, he moved into administration serving as superintendent of schools in Scales Mound, Illinois and then in the same capacity for many years in Shiocton, Wisconsin. He donated generously of his time to area organizations including the Shiocton Lions Club, Shiocton Business League, Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators and other groups. Bob was a passionate player and fan of basketball at all levels, from “home court” in his drive way to the Badgers and Bucks, through seasons thick and thin. He enjoyed spending his days trout fishing, working in his yard, tinkering with cars and spending time with family at his cottage on Washington Island. Most of all, he was a beloved husband, father and grandfather whose kind, patient and accepting ways will be missed by all who were lucky to know him well.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia (Utschig) McCoy and his children, Timothy (Laura) McCoy, Michael (Cathleen) McCoy and Daniel (Stephanie) McCoy. His grandchildren: Nicholas, Colin, Robert, Emily and Erin always brought a smile to his face and a twinkle to his eye.

A private service for immediate family is being held in the coming weeks and a celebration of life will be held for friends and family on Saturday, October 6th at 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Shamrock Heights Golf Course in New London, Wisconsin. For those wishing to make a gift in memory of Bob, please consider a donation to the New London Public Library or the University of Wisconsin’s Carbone Cancer Center.
