W-F girls place second

Abby Bartel isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.

The Weyauwega-Fremont freshman won the girls’ race at the Don Chase Relays Oct. 4 in Weyauwega and helped the Indians finish second in the standings, one point behind Berlin.

Bartel crossed the finish line in 19:08, 29 seconds ahead of runner-up Jada Beacom of Iola-Scandinavia.

Team scores for the girls were Berlin (75), Weyauwega-Fremont (76), Bonduel (84), Wautoma/Wild Rose (119), Amherst (123), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (134), Westfield/Montello (176), Iola-Scandinavia (178), Clintonville (181) and Manawa (295).

Other places and times for the Weyauwega-Fremont girls were Katie Bleck (15th, 22:17); Allison Halat (18th, 22:41); Saylor Alberts (19th, 22:46); Natalie Schneider (23rd, 23:00); Kaitlyn Monty (31st, 23:37); Jade Miller (34th, 24:01): and Rylee Bartel (35th, 24:24).

Also placing for the Iola-Scandinavia girls were Makenna Brown (32nd, 23:40); Briar Williams (37th, 24:32); Jessica Schaefer (47th, 24:57); and Lydia Johnsrud (67th, 29:37).

Kate Phelan turned in the fastest time for Manawa, as she placed 58th in 26:49. Other places and times were Andrea Wentworth (60th, 27:29); Samantha Scheuermann (63rd, 28:27); Aspen Linjer (64th, 28:34); and Andria Weber (68th, 29:40).

Berlin also won the boys’ championship with 58 points, followed by Clintonville (65), Bonduel (90), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (92), Wautoma/Wild Rose (93), Weyauwega-Fremont (124), Iola-Scandinavia (208), Westfield/Montello (231), Manawa (275), Gresham/Bowler (277) and Amherst (309).

Places and times for Weyauwega-Fremont were Patrick Long (fifth, 17:57); Jacob Carroll (23rd, 19:22); Josh Halat (34th, 19:45); Carson Kester (35th, 19:45); Martin Leyva (36th, 19:49); Kevin Ames (52nd, 20:55); Exander Fletcher (53rd, 20:58); and Jakob Mills (59th, 21:38).

Places and times for Iola-Scandinavia were Erick Kriewaldt (19th, 19:08); Robert Vater (44th, 20:48); Dylan Donovan (46th, 20:49); Erik Grenlie (58th, 21:33); Brock Opperman (71st, 23:29); Erich Schmoldt (72nd, 23:30); Carson Munoz (78th, 23:50); Nick Louison (81st, 24:16) and Landon Torborg (84th, 26:04).

Manawa’s finishers included Tyler Carlson (51st, 20:54); Zachary Schertz (60th, 21:40); Devin Loughrin (64th, 22:01); Jacob Scheller (66th, 22:24); Ethan Tellock (80th, 24:14); and Gavin Linjer (85th, 26:29).

All three teams will head to Bonduel Thursday, Oct. 11, for the Central Wisconsin Conference meet. Races are scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m.
