Westphal, Marcella

Marcella M. Westphal, age 95, of Readfield, went to her heavenly home on October 6, 2018.

She was born on August 3, 1923, daughter of the late Ernest and Amalia (Meidam) Flunker. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fremont, and went to school at Crystal Fountain in Fremont. Marcella was employed in Chicago caring for children during World War II. On May 19, 1945, she was united in marriage to Raymond Westphal at Zion Lutheran Church in Readfield. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1984. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marcella was an expert pie baker and enjoyed gardening and her raspberry patch. She was an avid Packer fan and had a love for angels and cardinals. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Readfield.

She is survived by her children, Verdaine (Ronald) Anunson, Bruce (Marilyn) Westphal; four grandchildren: Darryl (Melissa) Anunson, David (Vicki) Anunson, Joseph (Renee) Westphal, and Suzanne; six great-grandchildren: Bradley, Alexis, Gillian, Mara, Caleb, Anna and Jonah; a sister, Joyce Ponto; two sisters-in-law, Elsbeth Flunker and Elaine Flunker. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Bernhardt, Ernest and Kenneth; two sisters, Margaret and Sarah; brothers-in-law: Eldor Ponto, Erwin Pankow, Calvin Pomerening; sister-in-law, Jean Flunker; great-grandson, Elijah Raymond; Marcella’s husband’s siblings and spouses: Walter (Marie) Westphal, Orin (Adelaide) Westphal, Norma (John) Kohl, Elsie (Walter) Voigt, Reuben Westphal who died in Italy during World War II; and also an infant brother and sister.

The Christian Funeral for Marcella will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Readfield with Rev. Peter Kesting officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A visitation for Marcella will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Weyauwega from 4-7 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers at Crossroads Care Center in Weyauwega, Heartland Hospice for their many visits, and also to Zion Lutheran Church members and other church members for their wonderful care and concern of Marcella.
