Explorers recruit teens pursuing criminal justice

The New London Police Explorers will hold their annual open house and recruitment night on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.

The event will take place in the community room in the back of the Washington Center, 500 W. Washington St., New London.

The New London Police Explorers is a youth-run program aimed at high school students ages 14 to 18 who are interested in a criminal justice career.

They meet about twice a month and participate in hands-on law enforcement training conducted by qualified law enforcement professionals.

Recent training topics covered included traffic stops, OWI enforcement, SWAT and room clearing.

Four years ago, Joshua Kislewski joined the New London Police Explorers. As Kislewski completed each year, he knew law enforcement was the career choice for him.

On Oct. 5, New London Police Detective Chase Schroeder and Staff Sgt. Josh Wilson watched Kislewski graduate from the Fox Valley Technical College Police Academy.

“Joshua will now enter the Field Training program with Grand Chute Police Department,” Wilson said. “Joshua is only one example of the success of the program.”

Teens between the ages of 14 and 18 who are interested in law enforcement as a career are encouraged to attend Oct. 22.

If unable to attend, email the Explorer advisers at [email protected] or call Staff Sgt. Josh Wilson at 920-982-8505.
