Missing child found in river

Weekend search ends in tragedy

The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office called off the search for a missing child shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday after his body was found in the Little Wolf River.

The 18-month-old boy went missing from his home just before 3:30 p.m. Saturday. He had been in the garage with his family before it was noticed that he was missing.

After receiving the 911 call, deputies responded to the area with K-9 units and started searching for the boy.

They were assisted by more than two dozen agencies from throughout the area, as well as by volunteers.

The boy had been at a home in the town of Harrison, located north of Iola, near the Little Wolf River.

In a press release posted to its Facebook page, the sheriff’s office noted that volunteers needed to “be physically able to help search, them as much of the area is wet and challenging.”

The name of the child has not been released yet, pending notification of all family members.
