Farmers helps Clintonville police buy equipment

Laser radar will crack down on speeders

By Erik Buchinger

Duane and Jodi Boyer of Clintonville donated $2,500 to the Clintonville Police Department to purchase new equipment.

The money was granted from America’s Farmers Grow Communities Monsanto Fund, which allows $2,500 to be donated to an organization of their choice.

One farm is chosen per year in Waupaca County. This year the Boyer farm was selected.

“I was shocked when we got the call we won it,” said Jodi, whose son Zach used to be a Clintonville Police officer. “I never thought we’d get that.”

The Boyers sent the money to the police department for a new K-9 after K-9 Chero passed away.

“Initially, that was when [the police department] had lost its dog, and we designated it to the K-9 fund,” Jodi said. “We thought that would help out, but I think it took so long for them to get the money the new dog had already been trained.”

The police department used the money to purchase a new laser radar unit, which works well in inclement weather and gives distance and general speed including going-away speed.

“It’s more vehicle-specific, and it’s a costly piece of equipment they helped us get,” Clintonville Police Captain Dennis Schroeder said. “It’s a nice unit to have. We had an older one that was outdated, and we thought this would be something to use it for.”

The laser radar unit helps to determine which car is speeding in a group of cars during rush hour.

Jodi said she applied for the grant last fall and was contacted in January to be notified the farm had been selected.
