Named among top 10 U.S. chapters

Eleven Waupaca FFA members participated at the 2018 National FFA Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana, from Oct. 23-26.

Everlah Riley, Eryn Butzi, and Paige Swanson competed in the Model of Excellence.

Ten chapters nationwide were selected from their National Chapter applications to be the No. 1 chapter in the United States.

The members created a 15-minute presentation which included a powerpoint and had 10-minutes of questions from five judges.

As the Model of Excellence Chapter, Waupaca FFA received a check for $500 sponsored by John Deere. The award is designed to encourage FFA members to grow as individuals, to work as part of a team and to serve others.

Garret Miller and Lexi Rabassa were also on the convention stage to be acknowledged as a recipient of the 3-Star Chapter award.

This award recognizes chapters whose members implement activities to assist in growing leaders, strengthening agriculture, and building communities.

FFA members attended workshops and sessions at the convention.

Students toured The Wisconsin Equine Clinic and Hospital with 15 doctors who treat equine emergencies and surgeries on site and also travel to stables to treat sick horses.

Other tours included the Albanese Candy Factory, Indianapolis Zoo and Ozark Goldfish and Koi Fisheries.

Members also attended the much-anticipated Garth Brook Concert where Waupaca FFA members had seats on the floor level. Brook donated the ticket fees to the National FFA.

The FFA has chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
