Narcotics bust in Weyauwega

Police say a driver was unable to remember his destination.

Jacob Locaste, 31, Stevens Point, is charged with operating a vehicle with a restricted substance, misdemeanor bail jumping and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shortly before 4 p.m. on July 9, Weyauwega Police Officer Justin Malueg was dispatched to the Weyauwega Travel Plaza in response to a complaint that a man was bothering the customers.

Malueg reported finding the man, later identified as Locaste, at the store.

According to the criminal complaint, Locaste’s head and arms were twitching, his speech was slurred and incoherent, and there was a needle mark in his right forearm.

Locaste reportedly said he was coming from Stevens Point, but he did not know where he was going.

Malueg found a loaded syringe and a used syringe, a dirty cooker and two gem bags in the driver’s door compartment of Locaste’s car.

One of the gem bags had heroin and a blood sample indicated that Locaste had methamphetamine in his system, the complaint says.

Locaste has three prior drunken driving convictions. His latest conviction was on July 12, when he was sentenced to 45 days in jail and his license revoked for 24 months.

Locaste is scheduled for an initial court appearance on Dec. 11.
