Clarice M. Toltzman, age 86, of New London, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2018 surrounded by her family at Kindred Hearts in Greenville.
She was born on April 15, 1932 to the late Clifford and Bonita (Finkle) Plowman and was a life long resident of New London. She worked as a clothing buyer for Vandrees and was an active volunteer in her church and community. Clarice’s greatest passion in life was to take care of her family. She married her husband Wayne M. Toltzman on April 18, 1950 and they celebrated 68 years of marriage this year. As wife of the Mayor, she was First Lady of New London for 12 years.
Clarice is survived by her husband, Wayne, and their daughter Christine (William) Knapp; grandchildren: David (Irene) Murphy; Jennifer (Brooklyn) Murphy; Jesse (Sharon) Murphy; Kevin (Erin) Murphy; Kathryn Murphy; Taylor (Elizabeth) Porter; Nicholas Toltzman and Ashley (Ryan) Wilken; 12 great-grandchildren: Skyler and Cillian Murphy; Kayla, Amari and Shaelin Murphy; Deja and Jasmyn Murphy; Jonathan, Mimi, and Justin Gonzalez; Onyx and Shawn Wilken. She is also survived by her brother George (Jane) Plowman; sisters, Donna (Marvin Luck) Krake and Patricia (Richard) Murphy and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Steven and Shawn.
A Funeral Mass for Clarice will be held on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New London with Fr. John Kleinschmidt officiating. Visitation will be held at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London on Thursday from 4-6 p.m. and also at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
